For ice roads Adrian's Resort is allowing half ton trucks not pulling anything. Cyrus Resort and Morris Point Lodge are allowing smaller rigs to go on to the lake but some mother nature issues have forced them to hold larger vehicles off the ice for the time being. Zippel Bay is allowing half tons to the sand bar.

Pay a small access fee to the resort or outfitter who allows access on their land on to an ice road they have worked on feverishly for weeks. Adrian's road has been a well run and maintained ice road for many years on the Worlds Best Hard Water Fishery, and it's tough to find someone that's been to Lake of the Woods in the winter that hasn't heard of this legendary ice road.

Lake of the Woods Lodging Book Your Stay

The bay has 6 1/2 to 9 inches of ice. Lots of resorts pulled houses out to the lake today. We will be taking a few out tomorrow. The main lake had 9 to 10 inches where people are fishing. If you decide to go out be carefull there is still open water scattered around the lake and many other spots without safe enough ice for travel.

The lake had begun to change anyway. The township was paving the dirt roads over. Soldiers were having parties on the private beaches, and building new houses along the lake. The new folks were drinking too much and respecting the lake too little. The era of silent midnight canoeing was over. My family left the lake for good.
