March 15th, 2023 will mark two years since the very last Boeing 747 in KLM's stunning blue livery departed the Ducth flag carrier's primary hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) for good. The jumbo jet, registered as PH-BFV, took off from Amsterdam Schiphol at 09:20 and headed for storage facilities at Teruel in Spain.

The Boeing 747-8Fs' production will come to an end this year, so that wouldn't be an option. In the coming years, Air France-KLM will focus on developing an efficient cargo fleet with newer aircraft. Air France (AF) itself operates two Boeing 777Fs, while four A350Fs are on order too, which will all be based at Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG).

Published Jun 22, 2021 Dutch flag carrier and Skyteam member KLM was one of many airlines to have its long-haul operations revolutionized by the iconic Boeing 747 family. All in all, the Amsterdam-based airline flew variants of the 'Queen of the skies' for nearly half a century.

The 747 was an exceptional aircraft for its day and its 353-passenger capacity, in the KLM constellation, was a huge leap forward compared with the largest aircraft KLM had in operation at that time. This had all sorts of consequences for handling, crew, maintenance and catering.

The Boeing 747 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner designed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States between 1968 and 2023. After introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet 21⁄2 times its size, to reduce its seat cost by 30%. In 1965, Joe Sutter left the 737 development program to design the 747.

Published Jun 25, 2021 Last year, KLM retired its last Boeing 747 aircraft. This brought the curtain down on nearly half a century of jumbo jet operations at the Dutch flag carrier. The first variant of the 'Queen of the skies' that KLM operated was the 747-200, which initially had the same short upper deck as the original 747-100.

This weekend, KLM will operate its final Boeing 747 passenger flights, bringing an end to nearly 50 years of service with the airline. The 747 was scheduled to exit the fleet in 2021, but the impacts of COVID-19 flight restrictions and plummeting passenger demand have forced KLM to move the schedule forward. The final KLM 747 flight

KLM's Boeing 747 will be retiring after 50 years of loyal service. Fans of this magnificent machine have been awaiting the phase out with a heavy heart for some time. I am also dreading the departure of the Grand Old Lady, which got me wondering why people develop such warm feelings for an aircraft.

The world's scariest airplane landing—or coolest, depending on who you ask—happens when KLM flies its Boeing 747 flight into St. Maarten's Princess Juliana International Airport. For years.

The wingspan is comparable to a 20-lane highway, the four CF6-80C2 engines are good for power close to that of 100 F1 racing cars and, most of all, the impressive nose, where the upper deck is around six storeys above the ground. 4. She's highly photogenic. The 747 is probably also the most photographed plane.
